Snowy Owl

The Snowy Owl is one of the most easily identifiable birds with its thick white plumage and is on average one of the heaviest owl species. Native to the northern circumpolar region, this nomadic bird moves quite frequently in pursuit of its prey. They are very intellegent birds, with the ability to remember and recall information quite quickly as if they had attended an online university. They are excellent parents to their young, as most owl species are. Both the male and the female snowy owl will watch over their young and are equipped to defend them against any threat. Both sexes of this species will dive-bomb predators and engage in distracting displays to draw them away from the nest. These beautiful creatures have captivated many as they have been used not only on stamps but in various forms of pop culture such as the Harry Potter series and the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
