Spain Spanish Cinema - 3 stamps with one having a small image of what looks like Carrion Crow (Corvus corone). Here's a large image of the stamp. Here's a clip from the film in which the bird features prominently. Disappointingly, there are 3 incorrect scientific names, and, strangely, "Swamp Harrier" does not have a scientific name. The gravest error has presumably been caused by the designer searching for an image of the very special Niuafo'ou Scrubfowl (Megapodius pritchardii) but choosing a fine image of the completely un-related Grey-necked Wood-Rail (Aramides cajanea)! One of the photographs has a credit, as it was taken in New Zealand by Glen Fergus. Cape Verde Stamperija has listed several sets on various themes. The issue for Birds and Flora - Caldeiras Set has 6 stamps with 3 featuring Fea's Petrel (Pterodroma feae), Grey-headed Kingfisher (Halcyon leucocephala) and Cape Verde Swamp-Warbler (Acrocephalus brevipennis). The same images of the kingfisher and warbler appear on this souvenir sheet. The stamps are dated 2011. The issue for Protected areas - Fauna - Flora - Santo Antao Set has 6 stamps with 2 featuring Fea's Petrel (Pterodroma feae) and Eurasian Buzzard (Buteo buteo bannermani). Congo (Kinshasa) Scouts and Birds: 2 basic designs in various formats. One has Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus). The other claims to show the recently rediscovered endemic Congo Bay-owl (Phodilus prigoginei). However, there are few photographs of this very scarce species and the designer has chosen this photograph of a captive Oriental Bay-owl (Phodilus badius). ???? 2012 Thumb down Stampworld.de
Congo (Kinshasa) Hornbills: 4 stamps featuring White-thighed Hornbill (Bycanistes albotibialis), Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill (Tockus camurus), African Grey Hornbill (Tockus nasutus) and Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill (Bycanistes subcylindricus). ???? 2012 Tick Delcampe
Paraguay 40th Anniversary of the UN's Environmental Protection Programme: single with what I thought was Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), but now that I have the stamp, I see that it is inscribed "Garcita Azulada/Butorides striatus" which would make it Striated Heron (Butorides striata). There is also a souvenir sheet featuring Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja). ???? 2012 Tick Bombay Stamps
Chad The Delcampe seller, Dom1953, has several sales of Tchad stamps with the topic Waterbirds. There seem to be only 6 species included on the stamps but in a variety of formats. They are: Cape Teal (Anas capensis), Darter (Anhinga melanogaster), Sudan Golden Sparrow (Passer luteus), Northern Carmine Bee-eater (Merops nubicus), Yellow-shouldered Widowbird (Euplectes macrourus) and Corn Crake (Crex crex). As some of these sales may disappear quite quickly, here are links to the images: Teal and Anhinga, 2x Golden Sparrow, Bee-eater and Widowbird, Teal, Anhinga and 2x Corncrake, 2x Golden Sparrow, Bee-eater and Widowbird and Teal, Anhinga and 2x Corncrake. ???? 2012 Tick Delcampe
Nicaragua San Juan River Flora and Fauna: 6 stamps with only 2 birds. One is Great Egret (Ardea alba). The other is labelled "Mellisuga helenae", the Cuban endemic, Bee Hummingbird. This bird has a blue tail, and I have been advised that it is probably Steely-vented Hummingbird (Amazilia saucerrottei). The range of this species does include the river San Juan. ???? 2012 Tick Delcampe
Syria The Syrian Eagle: 4 stamps with presumably Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). I'm assured this is an official issue. ???? 2012 Tick Ebay
Papua New Guinea Personalised stamps: 3 stamps and labels which can be personalised, with one featuring Raggiana Bird-of-paradise (Paradisaea raggiana). Here's the Post PNG announcement of the service, but the images do not appear. ???? 2012 Thumb down Ebay and Post PNG
Djibouti Stamperija has listed several new sets on various themes. However, there are no birds! I am noting this first release by Stamperija, as I presume they are "officially" approved, and perhaps we can expect a few birds soon...
While checking what else may have been issued in the name of Djibouti, I noticed this item for sale for US$549.00. A block of 4, two of the stamps feature Ostrich (Struthio camelus) and Djibouti Francolin (Francolinus ochropectus), it was apparently printed by "Poste Tunis" in 2012. Update: 5 March 2016 A correspondent with a contact in Djibouti has confirmed that this mini-sheet was officially issued.
