| Georgia 1996 Birds of Prey | ||||
|
This sheet of 16 stamps was issued at the same time as a sheet of song birds, which were all fairly easy to identify. On both sheets, the bird's name is given only in Georgian, which did not help with correctly identifying the species shown. Recently, I discovered that Avibase lists the birds of Georgia with the option of seeing the names in Georgian. For each stamp, I have extracted the name from the stamp, and compared with the name on Avibase. The comparison table below shows that I have a few corrections to make, and that CBoS lists some incorrectly. I could not find the Georgian name for Red Kite, but this Google image search with the name on the stamp finds Red Kites. I shall make my corrections in my next update.
