Guinea-Bissau Raptors 2005
Guinea-Bissau Raptors 2005 sheet

There have been several issues produced on behalf of Guinea-Bissau recently, that fall outside my collection's criteria. I recently noticed this sheet on Kjell Scharning's web site because one of the raptors was listed as "unidentified". I realise now that I need this sheet for the African Fish-Eagle which is a local bird.

The top left bird is obviously the Asian species: Crested Serpent-Eagle (Spilornis cheela), and the bottom middle stamp has White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla). The others are not so easy.

I do not know how these stamps were produced or found their way on to the philatelic market, but I would be surprised if a wildlife artist were commissioned to produce the illustrations. The birds are apparently accurately portrayed which leads me to wonder if the images have been taken from a book on birds of prey.

If you can identify the bird on the top-right, bottom-left or bottom-right stamps, or recognise the illustrations, please let me know

There is a MS associated with this issue. Any suggestions for this would also be welcome.

Update: 22 March 2008
A correspondent in Canada has noticed a similarity between the top right bird and an illustration of an intermediate adult Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) from the "Sibley guide to birds`National Audubon Society book ISBN 0-679-45122-6 on page 122. The illustration has not been taken from the book, which I do not have, but I can see the likeness from the scan provided.
