Peru 1998 Fauna of Manu
Toucan
Blue and Yellow Macaw
Scarlet Macaw
Fauna of Manu Great Egret
Coot

Currently, I show this stamp has having only one species Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), which is clearly wrong. Collecting Birds on Stamps lists this species and also Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao). Recently, looking at the stamp more closely I was surprised that nobody seemed to list the white heron on the right. Its long, slender neck suggests Great Egret (Ardea alba) which is found at Manu.

At the top left, a toucan has just made it on to the stamp, though it is perforated. Its dark bill, with some yellow at its base, and the white throat, bordered below with red all suggest this is a Red-billed Toucan (Ramphastos tucanus) which has appeared on an earlier stamp from Peru.

Scurrying across the water is the unmistakable shape of a species of coot (Fulica sp.). Although there are a few species of coot listed for Peru, various lists for Manu, including a Wings Birding Tours report show only the Slate-colored Coot (Fulica ardesiaca).

There are a few other very poor images of birds which may never be identified, notably 3 in the trees, and a possible Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma sp.) just to the left of the Egret.

Unidentifiable? Unidentifiable? Unidentifiable?
