This set of 13 reminds me of the Grenada set of definitives issued in 2000 which showed birds mostly not found in Grenada. In this set, 7 species occur in Dominica, but 4 of them have appeared on earlier stamps from the island. Snowy Cotinga is new on stamps, but is from Central America. According to Linn's, there are two more high values $10, red-footed booby (Sula sula); $20, sooty tern (Sterna fuscata). PS added 16 September 2002: In July 2002, Dominica issued a sheet of 6 stamps and a MS using some of the same bird images, but in different surroundings. Somebody might give up the hobby as a result of this exploitation! |
