Malaysia has issued some fine bird stamps, starting with the set of 8 issued almost 40 years ago. Now we have this interesting set of 8 that was originally scheduled for December 2004. With only 8 species, it is disappointing to me that it includes 3 representatives of the pigeon family (Columbidae). The bulbul is new on stamps, and although the pitta was included in the 1965 set, I believe the new one is the subspecies irena, which is found in peninsular Malaya, whereas the older stamp shows schwaneri from Borneo.
These stamps will be added to my main collection pages at the end of May.
